Getting ready for the new art show!

Partner's Gallery artists are coming back for a two-month show at Glendeven and we're so happy!  We rearranged the Wine Bar[n] a bit in order to be ready for them.  Here are some "before" pictures.

Mendocino County Fair

I'm guilty.  I haven't blogged in a long long time.  I've been "Facebooking" instead, but want to do both. Because both are fun.

Here are some fun pictures of our local County Fair in nearby Boonville this month.  Sheep dog trials and the animals are favorite things to see!

 

A Mendocino Welcome -- Llama kisses

Carla will often times give a llama-style greeting to you, if your technique is good.

Approach from the front, keep your hands down (they don't like to be touched unless during feeding time), and lean in. She wants to smell your breath. Her mom, who we call Mama Llama, taught her to do this. Together they're a good team, greeting guests in the pasture. A very fun thing to do, and a good photo opp.

Beet Sushi - tonight's appetizer

Tonight's Glendeven Inn appetizer is a beet "sushi" with roasted beets from the Glendeven garden, quinoa cakes, Laura Chanel goat cheese with nasturtium leaves and sliced oranges as a garnish.

The Mendocino coast is a perfect place to grow our garden vegetables.

The Naked Ladies

After all their green "skirts" are long gone, these ladies appear along our south fence by the thousands.
It's quite a summertime show here at Glendeven.

Solo PJ from the Garret room

Being a little man, PJ breaks from the herd at times and spends some "alone time" grazing and watching the Glendeven view. The ladies are never too far and usually within sight, but we think he likes his independence.

Dinner at Glendeven

I sat at chef Patrick's Farm-to-Table dinner this past Monday and it was just great. The menu is below, and I just had to take pictures. We hope you can join us soon!

Baby Ducks Hatching and Growing Up

Here are the new ducks hatching from their shells in Glendeven's incubator.

Today they made their debut at Glendeven. Sunshine and green grass. Very happy kids.

Seven Duck Eggs

Seven duck eggs ready to hatch any day now at Glendeven! This is the 25th day, and they'll be out by the 28th day. Will keep you posted.

Llama kisses

Here you see Mama Llama giving one of her generous "kisses." Her daughter, Carla (shown below) also gives kisses. These are llama-style greetings. They don't like hands or to be touched, but they'll freely give this types of kiss. Affection, but on their terms.

And if you're really good, they'll lend you their ears.

Eggs for Sale

Too many chicken eggs!

There are very prolific girls here at Glendeven.

This Mendocino farm produces fresh eggs, and its own organic vegetables.

New Baby Ducks?

This little guy -- unfortunately, and very sadly -- is our last little duck left after visits by a wild predator. We've taken care of the immediate danger, so he's safe.

And as shown here, he is not so lonely that he doesn't find mischief. Here you can see him inside the "duck proof" fence we built around the fish pond.

We have about 24 duck eggs left that hadn't yet been used for baking (which is how we use the very rich duck eggs), and they're fertile. So we decided to incubate them and soon we'll hopefully have the offspring of our dear departed flock running around the property.

Below is a picture of a candled egg showing the growth after eight days. All systems go on the big Glendeven duck incubation.

Spring is springing

I just took a five minute walk around the property and have proof here that spring has already begun!

The Glendeven grounds are great all times of the year, and the spring explosion is just beginning.

Free range chickens

Free-range chickens are happy laying chickens.

Glendeven chickens are fed all the greens they want, kitchen scraps, and garden clippings, too.

Healthy girls they are, and good recyclers to boot.

January Sunshine

A pastoral, sunny, January day here at Glendeven Inn.

Mendocino is so pretty this time of year.

If you time it just right, the weather in January is amazing in Mendocino.

This is a short 10 minute walk from Glendeven Inn at Van Damme beach.

The trail directly in front of our aptly named Beach Trail Cottage takes you here too.

The Sun Sets on the Holidays
