Spring is springing

I just took a five minute walk around the property and have proof here that spring has already begun!

The Glendeven grounds are great all times of the year, and the spring explosion is just beginning.

Free range chickens

Free-range chickens are happy laying chickens.

Glendeven chickens are fed all the greens they want, kitchen scraps, and garden clippings, too.

Healthy girls they are, and good recyclers to boot.

This is a short 10 minute walk from Glendeven Inn at Van Damme beach.

Christmas Food -- Beginning to End

Guests today started the day with fresh, hot, homemade water bagels, and a Glendeven Inn garden-greens souffle made with rainbow chard straight from our garden and, as always, eggs from the coop.

For dinner, guests who attended our special Glendeven host table dinner by Chef Patrick Meany, were treated to an amazing special holiday menu (below) with items including cassoulet of shellfish with rock shrimp "chorizo", foie gras with local huckleberries and homemade brioche, duck breast with carrot-caramel sauce, confit red cabbage, and duck cracklins, an intermezzo of hibiscus soup with flavors of green apple, peppermint & pomegranate -- all finished with a "30-Second" sponge cake with cranberry drops, whipped honey, and homemade graham cracker ice cream.

From left to right this is Aunt Sue, her 'niece' Carla, and Carla's mom (who is also Sue's full sister) who we call Mama Llama.

Springtime in Anderson Valley

On your way to Glendeven, you pass miles of vineyards in the Anderson Valley and the new life of spring.

Waterfall

At Mendocino's Russian Gulch State Park, a three mile hike takes you to this waterfall.

It's a Glendeven favorite.

I took this picture when driving through the Anderson Valley today to get wine for the Wine Bar[n]. It's so great out there this time of year.

When you drive to Glendeven on the 128, this is one of the sights you'll see.

The New Organic Garden

Thanks for laying out the new garden. Thanks for installing the irrigation lines, staking the bender boards, and chipping the brush for the walkways with Jose. Thanks for moving in the rich soil from our compost and mixing it with llama pellets.

Soon this garden will be lush and green by your hands. We can't wait.
